Tectonics Workshop in Hvar, Croatia,
October 2-6, 2005
SUMMARY
The RTI Workshop is the third in a series of theme-focused RETREAT
workshops, complementing the Geodynamic Modeling Workshop held
at Coldigioco earlier this Spring, and the Seismology Workshop
to be held at INGV-Rome this September.
Sunday 2 October
7:00 Arrive in Split
8:30 Depart to Stari Grad (North Hvar); arrive at Hotel Adriatic

14:30 sea conditions permitting, boat ride to Borca beach and
Zorace to see the thrust contact of Upper Cretaceous carbonate
platform limestone over the Eocene flysch formation; returning
to Hvar, circumnavigation of the Pakleni Islands checking the
geomorphology of the islands. If sea conditions are bad, we will
ride to Borca and Zorace with a bus, and hike to the outcrops
along easy trails.

Thursday 6 October

9:00 Guided visit to the Archaeological Museum of Hvar at Sv.
Marko by Marinko Petrich and Dr. Branko Kirigin.
10:00 Bus ride to Stari Grad (bring luggage), visit the National
Archaeological Museum and a few relevant archaeological sites
with Branko Kirigin.
12:30 Lunch near the village of Humac
14:00 Walk through the ancient Humac village and reach the Grapceve
Spilja cave after a 15 minute hike (Neolithic settlement); visit
the cave. Drive to the ferry port of Stari Grad.
17:30 Depart from Starigrad (North Hvar) to Split
19:00 Arrive in Split: 21:00 depart to Ancona
