Geodynamic Modeling

Goal: Analyze dynamics using numerical models that simulate the lithospheric system at a variety of scales. Finite-element modeling will investigate the upper mantle response to a subducting and retreating slab. Fully-coupled thermomechanical models will test the response of the crust to mantle motion. Distinct element models will be used to test scenarios of crustal deformation in response to accretion, including underplating, and surface erosion and deposition.
