Goal: Determine the present-day horizontal velocity field across the Northern Apennines

The geodesy group is measuring crustal deformation associated with ongoing tectonic processes in northern Italy using a combined campaign and continuous GPS network. Data from the RETREAT GPS network will be analyzed together with data from a regional backbone of continuous GPS stations from the ASI, EUREF, IGS networks and other networks, in order to understand the deformation field of the northern Apennines in the context of the greater Africa-Eurasia-Adriatic plate boundary zone.
